In the name of Allah the Most Beneficent the Most Merciful,
Dear reader what does death mean to you?Throughout the course of reading various Islamic books key of which is the Quran itself it becomes clear that there are two types of death:
- Physical death
- Spiritual death
Most of us are familiar with physical death. Its guaranteed that we will all taste it.All of us one of this fine days will die.I will die.Today I am able to write this post but only God knows if I will still be around tomorrow or even this evening. We have no doubts about this kind of death.
As for spiritual death, this is when the heart no longer recognizes its true Lord nor lives upon true guidance. This is when our hearts are dark and our souls are lost. This death is worse than physical death because its a death we choose for ourselves. We consciously or sub-consciously choose to not seek guidance and for those of us who have been blessed with guidance some of us turn away from the guidance. Thus the hearts wither and the soul dies.
However, there is a silver lining. Our Lord gives life to the dead both those who are physically dead (ie resurrection) and to those who are spiritually dead. This is one of the lessons derived from the following verse.
“So, We said, “Strike the slain man with part of it.” Thus does Allah bring the dead to life, and He shows you His signs that you might reason.”
Allah subhanahu wa taala( the Exalted most High) has the ability to cause death and give life.He created life and death(Quran 67;1)
Therefore Allah swt who brought the dead person alluded to in this verse is capable of bringing all of humanity back to life.(this specific incident occurred to the Children of Israel and details can be found in books of Quranic exegesis such as Tafsir Ibn Kathir).Hence there is absolutely no doubt that the day of judgement will come to pass.Let us prepare for it dear reader, let us prepare for it.
In addition to that Allah subhanahu wa taala can give life to spiritually dead hearts. This is mentioned in other ayahs of the Quran such as Quran 6;122.The point here is that Allah is capable of giving life to our dead hearts and filling them with the light of guidance and faith.
Allah our Lord makes His miraculous signs manifest to us so that we may reason. If we reason as we should then hopefully we will not be among those who say if only we had listened and reasoned we would not be from the dwellers of the blaze.
Dear reader so much can be said about this verse and so much more can be implemented from it.This blog should serve as a mere eye opener and an incentive to learn more.
May Allah subhanahu wa taala help us use our intellects in a manner that is pleasing to Him.
Asalaam aleykum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
